What did the researchers investigate and find?
A systematic review evaluated the clinical effectiveness of albumin-enriched platelet-rich fibrin (Alb-PRF) in periodontal and peri-implant procedures.
The review included 7 studies: six clinical studies involving a total of 156 participants and one animal study with 24 samples. Follow-up periods ranged from 7 days to 6 months.
The main findings were:
- Soft tissues: relatively consistent benefits in early wound healing.
- Postoperative comfort: favorable findings regarding pain and swelling.
- Hard-tissue regeneration: evidence remained limited and inconclusive.
Substantial differences among the included studies prevented a meta-analysis.
What does this mean for your clinical practice?
Alb-PRF may be considered an adjunctive biomaterial supporting early soft-tissue healing, rather than a primary material for hard-tissue regeneration.
Current evidence does not establish its effectiveness for bone regeneration. Further standardized randomized clinical trials with longer follow-up periods are needed.
