Summary in 1 minute
Researchers are developing robotic systems specifically designed for endodontic treatments. DentiBot, one of the best-known prototypes, assists in the cleaning and shaping of the root canal using force and torque sensors, patient motion tracking and hybrid position-force robotic control.
The system guides the endodontic file with high precision inside the canal, simultaneously compensating for instrument flexion or small patient movements. In preclinical tests on dental models, the robot autonomously performed root canal instrumentation, demonstrating the feasibility of robotic endodontics.
The technology is still at an experimental stage but shows how robotics could be integrated into endodontic procedures in the future.
