Robots for root canal treatments: a technology currently under investigation

0

Researchers are developing robots specifically designed for endodontic treatments. One of the best-known prototypes is DentiBot, a robotic system created to assist in the cleaning and shaping of the root canal.

The system uses force and torque sensors, patient motion tracking, and hybrid position-force robotic control, allowing the endodontic file to be guided inside the canal with high precision while compensating for instrument flexion or small patient movements.

In preclinical tests performed on dental models, the robot was able to autonomously perform root canal instrumentation, demonstrating the feasibility of robot-assisted endodontics.

Although the technology is still in an experimental stage, this type of system shows how robotics could be integrated into endodontic procedures in the future.
